War is Coming to Iran

What do you think, war with Iran by the end of February? Those Iranian diplomats taken from the consulate in Iraq for suspicion of espionage: think that's legitimate or an act of provocation? Israel talking peace with Syria. Do you think Israel has suddenly had a change of heart towards Syrians, or do you think it's an attempt to appease them while they assist the U.S against Iran? It's a little odd that Jordan announced they want a nuclear weapon because they fear Iran. Saudis are overwhelmingly Sunni, and aside from Westerners hate Shiite Iran more than anything else. They have said they will send troops into Iraq to protect Sunnis. See a pattern? It almost looks like a large group of kids on a playground holding sticks and rocks, encircling a smaller group of tough talking bullies, waiting for someone to start shoving first. Alexander Cockburn from Counterpunch guesses a siezure of an Iranian tanker in February as a prelude. See the Nation Vol. 284, number 5.

A couple more things: the Jimmy Carter book "Palestine Peace Not Apartheid" has the Israel lobby up in arms and all sorts of crazy things are being said about Carter now, mostly because of his use of the word Apartheid in the title. Because it was written by Carter I think the publisher was able to publish it, otherwise the Israeli lobby would still be in court to try to block it. For the past thirty years South African Jews have been calling Apartheid what the Israelis are doing in Palestine. Also, the wimpy draft resolution by the Senate to tell the President that the Senate is opposed to war is just political capital to use during the next election: my opponent voted to support Bush. But the other side of the equation is the near unanimous approval of Bush by the Republican representatives. After all, if Iran falls a fickle American voting public, egged on by a doting media, would suddenly find approval with a party responsible for taking out a despicable regime ushered in by the Ayatollah Khomeini. That resolution doesn't address the Iraq war, nor the impending war with Iran. I think that it speaks volumes that there is little substantive plans from Democrats. Almost like they have resigned themselves to the eventuality of an Iranian war.
